5. Ocean Whale and Fish Mobile
For a nautical or ocean-themed nursery, this mobile brings in gentle motion and a soothing blue palette that pairs well with white furniture and natural textures.
Materials: felt in deep navy, dusty blue, aqua, and ivory, embroidery floss, fiberfill, a wooden hoop, and twine. Optional: tiny felt bubbles in pale blue.
Cut a whale silhouette with a separate tail piece, then stitch on a small eye and a few curved lines along the belly for detail. Sew two whale shapes together and stuff lightly. Add three or four small fish in different colors and sizes, plus a couple of flat felt waves to hang at the top. Suspend everything at different heights so the whale sits lower and the small fish float above it.
Give yourself about three hours. Difficulty sits at a comfortable intermediate level, mostly because of the whale’s shape. Swap the whale for a seahorse or a sea turtle if you want something different.
