3. Woodland Fox and Leaves Mobile

3

Autumn-inspired nurseries have a lot of charm, and a woodland mobile gives you an excuse to work with rich, earthy felt colors that look wonderful against warm wood furniture.

You’ll need: felt in rust, sage, tan, cream, and charcoal, embroidery floss in a contrasting shade for the fox’s face, fiberfill, a wooden hoop, and twine.

Cut a simple fox head silhouette, then cut a cream muzzle and inner ears to layer on top. Stitch the facial details before assembling, because it is much harder to embroider once the shape is stuffed. Sew two fox shapes together, stuff lightly, and close. Then cut felt oak and maple leaves in two or three colors. Leaves can stay flat, which saves time and keeps the mobile light.

Allow three hours. The fox is the fiddly part; the leaves go quickly. For a variation, swap the fox for a hedgehog, or add a few small acorns to fill out the arrangement.
