8. Floating Wall-Mounted Ladder Shelf and Blanket Rack

8

Not every blanket rack needs to lean. A wall-mounted ladder saves floor space and adds built-in display for small items. The rungs can hold folded blankets, while the top rail can support a trailing plant or a framed print. This is a smart choice for narrow living rooms, hallways that open into the living area, or rental-friendly setups where you can patch small holes.

Materials:

  • Two 1×4 boards, 5–6 feet long
  • Four to five 1×3 boards cut to 20 inches for rungs or shelves
  • Wood screws, L-brackets, drywall anchors or stud finder
  • Sandpaper, paint or stain, clear sealer
  • Level and pencil

Build the ladder frame on the floor first. Attach the rungs to the rails, then sand and finish. Locate the studs in your wall and mark a level line. Secure the ladder to the wall using L-brackets at the top and bottom. If you cannot find studs, use heavy-duty drywall anchors rated for the weight of your blankets.

Time: 2–3 hours. Difficulty: Intermediate.

Use the lower rungs for blankets and the upper rungs for lighter decor. In a small living room, mount it above a sofa or beside a window. Keep the color close to your wall color for a calm look, or choose a contrasting wood tone to make it a focal point. Always check the weight limit of your anchors before adding heavy quilts.
